KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna-born football administrator Siya-bonga Chris Tyhawana (43) has been elected as president of the South African Football Association (Safa) Eden Region for a second term. The elections were held during the Safa Eden Regional Congress at the Premier Hotel in Knysna, bringing together representatives from the region's seven local football associations (LFAs) to deliberate on matters affecting football in the district.

Among those present was former Knysna LFA secretary and current Knysna Mayor, Thando Matika. Tyhawana will lead the regional executive committee for the next five years, with a focus on strengthening football structures and communities across the Eden region.

The new executive includes Gabriel Majolla, Sonwabile Sibotoboto and Pretty Cheba as deputy presidents. Keanan du Plessis was elected general secretary, with Zanele Toti as vice secretary, while Enrico Prins will serve as treasurer.

Congress also elected representatives for the LFAs. Dorian Innes was confirmed for Knysna, Luthando Sam for George, Zolani Mpumela for Mossel Bay, Vuyiswa Ntozini for Hessequa and Patrick Jaftha for Oudtshoorn. The Plettenberg Bay and Kannaland positions remain vacant.

Speaking after his re-election, Tyhawana said the result carried both honour and responsibility.

"The real work starts after the votes are counted," he said, adding that his focus would be on building stronger, united and more professional football communities.

Tyhawana said he viewed the votes as a mandate to continue serving the region rather than a personal victory.

He pledged to represent every LFA, club, player, coach, referee, administrator and stakeholder.

His message to the LFAs was to work together, communicate and respect one another.

"The election is over and it's now time to unite and deliver."
