Update
KNYSNA NEWS - The DA announced today that the party was pleased with the court’s finding in the case in which former Knysna mayor Mark Willemse contested his removal from the DA, and thus as Ward 9 councillor and mayor in late September last year.
The party’s regional chair for the East Region Jaco Londt said in a statement that they were pleased with the outcome, with the judge ruling in their favour.
“Willemse had ceased to be a member of the DA last year... For now we will reserve further comments until we have studied the full judgement,” Londt said.
An urgent High Court application for interdictory relief that would reverse his removal from the DA was filed by Willemse's counsel in October last year.
Willemse, who was elected mayor of Knysna by council in mid-2018, maintains his removal was unlawful, and has survived two motions of no confidence brought against him by the DA since June 2018.
This is a developing story.
