KNYSNA NEWS - By-elections to determine councillors for Wards 9 and 10 have been set for 11 November. Residents are urged to register as voters this coming weekend of 3 and 4 October.
Only those who haven't registered before, or who have moved since the last election will need to register.
Voters can check their registration status via the official IEC app, by SMSing their ID number to 32810 (R1/SMS), on the IEC website, or at the local IEC office. In order to register as a voter, you will need to make an appointment at the local IEC office.
It is encouraged that you always phone first. You will need either your green bar-coded ID book, smart-card ID, or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC).
The voters' roll is set to be certified by 15 October. The opening of nomination of candidates begins on 9 October, and will give parties or individuals the chance until 17:00 on 19 October to throw their hat in the race. So, at this point none of the wards have official candidates yet.
The opening of applications for special votes will be on 30 October, and the date set aside for special votes is 10 November with the official by-elections the following day.
Voting stations are to be announced in due course.
