KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna mayor Aubrey Tsengwa of the ANC has been removed from his post following a motion of no confidence brought by one of his coalition partners at a special council meeting today, Friday 14 February.
The motion was tabled by EFF councillor Neil Louw and seconded by KIM councillor Mark Willemse.
There were 14 votes for the motion and seven against. All political parties in the council, except the ANC, voted for the motion. This included, surprisingly, Tsengwa”s coalition partners the PBI, EFF and PA(two).
A further eight votes from the DA and two from KIM carried the motion.
Deputy mayor Alberto Marbi of the PBI will be the acting mayor until a new mayor is elected within 14 days.
This is the third motion in as many months that Tsengwa has faced. Previous motions were brought by Marbi, which was withdrawn, and Susan Campbell of KIM.
In a departure speech Tsengwa expressed gratitude to the council for the opportunity ” to serve the people of Greater Knysna”.
Tsengwa said he looked forward to spending more time in his ward as Ward 8 councillor.
