According to a report by SABC News, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has instructed employees not to go to work and that it wants its employees to resume work without conditions and for Eskom to respond to the memorandum of demands the workers handed in last week.
Last month, employees hired by Eskom contractors at the power station went on an illegal strike. Eskom announced that over 1000 of the workers were fired and some were issued with suspension letters.
Numsa’s spokesperson Steve Nhlapho told The Citizen that meetings between the union, Eskom and the contractors are set to begin at 11am today.
