NATIONAL NEWS - MPs on Monday said they were horrified over clashes at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban during a soccer match on Saturday night.
Kaizer Chiefs supporters went on the rampage after being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup competition by Free State Stars at the semifinal stage, invading the pitch, attacking security guards and damaging stadium infrastructure.
“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated. Those who inflicted such violence and chaos must be brought to justice and banned from attending future sporting events,” said chairperson of the portfolio committee on sport and recreation Beauty Dlulane.
“The committee notes the serious injuries sustained by a male security guard, as confirmed by the stadium’s operational manager, Mr Lunga Lamula. The committee wishes all those injured during these unruly and unjustified attacks a speedy recovery.”
