The cut in the e-tolls was announced by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday.
A process will be implemented over the next few months by which the toll for all motorcycles will be 18c a kilometre on the Gauteng freeways, for light motor vehicles (cars) 30c/km, medium heavy vehicles 75c/km and large heavy vehicles R1.50/km.
The tolls will in future all be a flat rate, whether or not the motorist has an e-tag. Public transport like buses and taxis with valid operating permits will still not pay any e-tolls, strengthening the equity principle.
The maximum toll fees payable for motorcycle will be capped at R125 a month, for light vehicles at R225/month, for medium heavy vehicles at R875/month and for large heavy vehicles at R2 900/month.
