GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The entire Garden Route is abuzz with news that Sedgefield local Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned as Miss SA for 2017 during the pageant's glitzy ceremony at Sun City on Sunday, March 26.
Having started her modelling career in Sedgefield when she won the Little Miss Sedgefield pageant, “in khaki safari pants and tekkies”, to finally fulfilling her dream of becoming Miss SA, this is definitely a goal-driven girl.
Demi-Leigh started her schooling career at Sedgefield Primary School where she was head girl. She is now a BCom business management and entrepreneurship graduate of the North West University in Potchefstroom and is pursuing a career in modelling.
The Knysna-Plett Herald managed to get a word in with Demi-Leigh between her now-insane schedule to find out what it feels like to finally see her dream come true.
“It is something you can’t describe and needs to be experienced. My heart is bursting with joy and I am walking on clouds. The moment before the announcement was so surreal, and I wondered if I was dreaming or if it was reality. It was definitely a ‘pinch me’ moment,” Demi-Leigh said.
About her experience of the pageant as a whole and her first week as Miss SA 2017, Demi-Leigh said, “The pageant was a season of growth and personal growth, posturing for the position. The entire experience shaped me for the role to come. My first week will be packed with media interviews, sponsor visits and getting acquainted with the Miss SA apartment,” adding that it will be her first time moving into an apartment, “and I can’t wait”.
Some other events she says she is looking forward to is attending and partaking in Miss Universe as well as attending the Sun Met and Cell C Playing for Pink Polo event. “The preparation for Miss Universe and Miss World happens throughout the year, however, we are still waiting for dates to be released for both internationals,” she said.
Lastly, and most importantly, was Demi-Leigh’s message to her supporters: “Thank you for playing such an integral part in my journey to winning the crown and becoming Miss SA. I appreciate each like, comment, message and vote, it is a humbling experience to receive such support and love from not only my community but from all of South Africa. I appreciate you.”
