“Learners and teachers from the Vooruitsig Primary School in Darling can look forward to having better facilities from the 2016 academic year” said the department’s spokesperson, Byron la Hoe.
The project, commissioned by the department for the province’s education department, began in June 2014. It involved the demolition of certain older structures and replacing them with framed concrete structures.
“The new school will be able to accommodate 1 250 learners, including 60 Grade R learners who have been using temporary classrooms on the site,” said Le Hoe.
The Grade R pupils would be accommodated in two new classrooms with its enclosed playing areas and facilities.
There is also a junior block with 10 classrooms. This block includes a media centre, music room, art room, and handwork room.
The intermediate phase pupils would be spread across 10 new classrooms. The senior phase received eight. Both the intermediate and senior blocks consisted of two levels.
“The classrooms are planned around courtyards with seating, while three blocks will accommodate the junior, intermediate and senior sections for better control,” said Le Hoe.
