GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Thieves caused a major setback for the Gift of the Givers, who arrived in Graaff-Reinet yesterday to assist the drought-ravaged town in finding water.
The humanity organisation started their first work yesterday, by drilling a borehole.
This morning (2 October) the team woke to find most of their essential tools stolen.
According to Ali Sablay, Gift of the Givers' project manager, the tools stolen include rare batteries, drilling tools and drilling spanners, as well as diesel and other essential tools.
“This is a setback for us and the town, as we hoped for the first water at 10:00. Now we have to look everywhere in South-Africa for tool replacements, as some of it is not available in South Africa," Sablay added.
No water donations were stolen, as this is stored at a different location.
