MOTORING NEWS - Ford and Los Angeles-based ice cream company Coolhaus launched a limited edition Mustang-inspired Orange Fury ice cream sandwich in the US - just in time for national ice cream day on 14 July. A special ice cream truck gave away free ice cream sandwiches in New York City and southern California. The special icy treats were also for sale elsewhere in the country.
The Orange Fury ice cream was inspired by the new Orange Fury exterior colour available on the 2018 Ford Mustang. The ice cream sandwiches consisted of a zesty orange-flavoured ice cream between two vanilla wafers covered in orange icing, in an edible wrapper with edible ink.
The treats were dreamt up by Ford colour and materials design manager, Barb Whalen, and the Coolhaus product developers captured the essence of the pony car and its eye-popping new colour.
"I typically focus on things like colour research, leather seats and hand stitching, so this was definitely a bit different for me," said Whalen. "It was fun applying some of those same design philosophies into helping Coolhaus create an ice cream flavour that really embodies the new Orange Fury colour."
