KNYSNA NEWS - The youth of Knysna are being urged to make their voices heard about skills development in the lead-up to a summit on the topic.
Knysna municipal Youth Desk in partnership with the Youth Council will be hosting a skills development summit later this year and have called upon youngsters in the area to participate and provide input by 30 June.
All youth, between the ages of 16 and 35, are being encouraged to give their input on ideas on training needs and skills development. Community services chair councillor Welcome Salaze said, "For the youth to succeed in the midst of the fourth Industrial Revolution, a new approach to skills is needed. The skills development summit will take a different approach when it comes to skills development. It will incorporate developing skills, creating jobs and growing the local economy.
"For this to be a success and be beneficial to our youth we need your input. Think of a skill you need to start that business idea you have always wanted to do, think of an industry that you would love to work in and tell us what skills development you require so we can tailor-make this programme for your needs."
All suggestions on training and skills needs must be in writing and sent to ssigula@knysna.gov.za or dropped off at the nearest Youth Desk.
The Cape Access E-Centre in Hornlee is also offering free computer training to the youth of Knysna.
Application forms are available at the nearest Youth Desk and on the municipal website www.knysna.gov.za/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Application-Form-Basic-Computer-Training-Hornlee-E-Centre.pdf.
Applications close on 31 May.
