Victorian picnic a first for Slow Festival

SEDGEFIELD NEWS - This year the Sedgefield Slow Festival (April 3 - 5) will have a Victorian picnic on the programme for the first time.

"We took the sterling suggestion by Sedgefield locals to add a Victorian picnic to the 2015 programme of events and this picnic is scheduled for Saturday, April 4 at 15:00 on the Village Green," Slow Festival coordinator Amanda Dixon said.

Not only will the picnic offer families, friends and neighbours an opportunity to share their news while enjoying a magnificent sunset, they will be able to do so to the exquisite sound of the Sinethemba Marimba Band followed by the band Driftwood.

"A Victorian picnic would just not be a Victorian picnic unless there was a dress theme, so we invite all to dress up in vintage attire and unpack those special table cloths and bric-a-brac to complete the theme."

Food will be available from the many food stalls on the Village Green, but participants can also take their own picnic baskets. "Bring your own tables, chairs, picnic blankets and a croquet set too, if you have one. Beer and wine will be sold from the Mitchell’s tent (No alcohol may be brought along)," said Dixon.

The cost is a R20 donation per person to Masithandane in Sedgefield. Tickets are available from the Sedgefield Tourism office or at the event on the day.

"To ensure that picnickers have a record of this special event, a photo booth of old will be available to take fun photos," Dixon concluded.
