KNYSNA NEWS - A Joodsekamp resident living near a vandalised house structure which has turned into a dumping site and smoking area for drug users is calling on the municipality to clean the building.
Joodsekamp resident George Ntlangeni took Knysna-Plett Herald (KPH) to the site. He says he is sometimes woken by young girls screaming in the structure at night and he has to chase away the boys who smoke drugs there every day.
"This is a crime spot, these criminals smoke here and commit crime," he says. Ntlangeni says people are dumping their refuse and the municipality is doing nothing to clean the place. "I reported the illegal dumping to the municipality and they have done nothing to clean the area. The ward councillor, Thando Matika, is aware of this and he has done nothing to assist me in cleaning the illegal dumping," he says.
Seeing that the municipality hasn't done anything to address his concerns since 2019, he decided to close the structure with corrugated iron roof sheets.
"I don't know what to do and in my e-mail to the municipality in January this year, I asked them what should I do in order for the matter to be addressed? I have exhausted all avenues and nothing is being done to assist me," he says.

He has now decided to take back his iron roof sheets as they are at risk of being stolen.
Matika referred KPH to Knysna Municipality's communication department.
By the time of going to print, Knysna Municipality had not yet responded to enquiries as to the resolution of this matter.
