On searching the vehicle they found and confiscated stolen items to the estimated value of R74 000 and arrested three suspects on the spot.
The suspects Ricardo Kleinbooi (42), Steve Beukes (21) and Keaton Goliath (19) made their first appearance in court on Friday, May 17. Beukes and Kleinbooi were charged with the possession of stolen goods whilst Goliath was positively linked to a burglary in Andrew Avenue, Hunter's Home on Tuesday, May 14 and charged with housebreaking.
Beukes, who was the driver of the vehicle, was also charged and fined for driving a vehicle without a licence. The police also confiscated the vehicle since it had been used to transport stolen goods. They were all remanded in custody.
"The stolen items included jewellery, cellular phones and Kruger Rand coins. It is alleged that the suspects entered the house though a window, stole the items and fled from the scene," explains Knysna Police communication officer, Constable Chris Spies.
The new station commander of Knysna, previously of Plettenberg Bay, Colonel Donovan Prins, was impressed by the good work of the police members involved in the arrest. They are Constables Jason Bruiners, Jeffrey Johanneson and Rodney Titus.
The suspects were expected to apply for bail in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, May 22.
