KNYSNA NEWS - The winners of the 9th Diageo Responsible Drinking Media Awards (RDMAs) have been announced, following an awards ceremony at Four Seasons Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg on Thursday 3 October.
The RDMAs recognise journalists and media at large for their efforts to positively influence perceptions and habits related to the irresponsible use of alcohol.
Former Knysna FM radio personality Pieter Cloete was in the running for Best Community Radio award, for his insert on Pretoria-based Groot FM entitled The difference between alcoholism and binge drinking – it will shock you.
For seven years, Cloete was the voice of many a slot on Knysna FM, and was especially known among locals for his drive-time slot before he decided to leave the station at the end of March 2017. He undoubtedly made his local fans proud at the RDMAs on 3 October, when he won in the category in which he was nominated.
His entry for the award was described as "an exploration into the concept of binge-drinking, powered by a panel discussion and
the use of social media".
