KNYSNA NEWS - Life Knysna Private Hospital held a small health drive at Knysna Primary School with the aim of providing flu shots to teachers during the height of flu season.
The shots were administered at the Knysna Primary School hall on the afternoon of Monday 5 June, and the calls to action for the teaching staff to receive flu shots came from Esté Scholtz whose mother is a nurse at Life Knysna Private Hospital.
The eager teachers stood in line to get their shots. Approximately 40 teachers at Knysna Primary School received their shots on the day and majority were awarded with lollipops for their good attitude.
The teaching staff at Knysna Primary gathered together to receive their flu shots at the start of the winter season.
"It's the beginning of flu season and we know how vulnerable the teachers and the students are as the winter approaches. My daughter phoned me and asked if I was willing to administer vitamin injections to the staff at the school. Soon more and more teachers wanted to get their shots when they heard about it. I ran the idea by the hospital and got together a team to do the shots.
"We wanted to make it an event for both the school and the hospital and connect the community in that way," says Esthie Cilliers, a nurse at Life, who led the health drive.
The enthusiastic teachers were rewarded with lollipops for their good attitude. Life Knysna Private Hospital hopes to make the health drive an annual happening and bring inoculations to more schools in the area.
The team also administered flu shots at Stepping Stones Primary School on Tuesday 6 June.
