KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Sea Cadets were ready to take their training vessel, named Training Ship Eriksen and sponsored by Jim Parkes of Geo Parkes & Sons, into use recently.
Completing fitting out the sails and details, it was time to take the boat off the sounds at the Knysna yacht club to go into the marina to complete the rigging of its standing rigging with Roger Clancy, alongside his yacht Kuanyin.
To their dismay, having started the 20hp diesel engine and engaging the propellor, there appeared to be no thrust to move the boat.
After inspection, it was found that the blades of the propellor had sheared off.
The cadets were devastated and are filled with despair.
