KNYSNA NEWS - Police seized a gun in White Location, Knysna, on Friday 13 December after receiving a tip-off from a member of the public.
Sergeant Christopher Spies, police spokesperson for the Southern Cape, said in a statement that a Knysna police officer was told at about 06:45 that two men were "wandering around with a firearm in their possession".
The officer responded promptly and "cornered the pair in Concordia Road, White Location".
After searching the men for a firearm, the officer allegedly found a firearm on one of them.
The officer had confiscated a pistol from a 22-year-old man and arrested him on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Spies said the suspect was taken into police custody, and would appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 17 December.
Western Cape police management had commended the officer for his efforts in ensuring "that the firearm is removed from the streets".
"Firearms in the hands of criminals pose a major threat to the safety of the public and efforts to (prevent the spread) of unlicensed firearms will be sustained as part of Safer Festive Season operations," Spies said.
