KNYSNA NEWSFLASH - Almost three years after the death of Cape Town student Jared Lomas during the Oyster Festival in 2015, allegedly at the hands of well-known Knysna resident Philip Bunge, the court will finally decide whether Bunge will be acquitted – or found guilty of murder or culpable homicide.
The State and the defence concluded their closing arguments in court on Monday 16 April, when the state submitted that Bunge be held responsible for the death “for holding Lomas by the collar and dragging him as the vehicle drove away”.
The defence contested that it was the other way around – that Lomas held onto the driver and this resulted in him falling down and sustaining fatal wounds.
The student was reportedly killed when getting into an argument with Bunge, who allegedly drove over the deceased with a Colt bakkie. Bunge denies the claim.
The magistrate indicated that judgement will be given on Friday 20 April.
