KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality has stated that it will be taking an appearance to defend in a summons from a group of Elandskraal residents who are suing for damages in excess of R17-million.
The group of 19 residents/claimants are being represented by law firm Klagsbrun, Edelstein, Bosman and Du Plessis Attorneys (KEBD).
The residents believe the municipality did not act swiftly enough in taking action to avert the 2017 fires that ravaged the Knysna area, believed to have started in Elandskraal.
They are claiming R17.2-million from the municipality.
According to Jean du Plessis of KEBD, they had issued the municipality with a summons roughly two weeks ago.
Municipal spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhoudt confirmed this, and that they will "take an appearance of defence" in the case, but refused to comment further as the matter is sub judicé.
