KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Rotary Club was actively involved in a programme that brought three Swiss trainers in early childhood development to Knysna during October.
They were sponsored by two Swiss and two South African Rotary clubs and the Rotary Foundation.
Preschool principals from townships in Wittedrift, Plettenberg Bay, Hornlee and Knysna were selected for the week-long training.
The Swiss trainers were Christa Juzi (language), Miriam Wenk (gross and fine motor development) and Emanuel Imfeld (maths), and the principals who benefited from the training were Henriehetta McLean, Letitia Pietersen, Yoliswa Meat, Brenda Somerset, Zoliswa Qoloma, Lucinda Messeur, Elizabeth Swartz, Estelle Vaas, Elmarie Maxim, Buyiswa Mabele, and Chriscencia van Rooyen.
The presenters were very impressed with the enthusiasm of the principals and admitted that they had to expand their original programme due to the fact that the local principals were very proficient.
At the end of the week, certificates were awarded to all attendees, who then burst into some beautiful African songs that brought tears to the eyes of the visitors.
The training took place at the new KET model preschool in Khayalethu. Implementation activities took place at Happy Faces in Hornlee.
Lesley Satchel and Louise Pannell of the Knysna Rotary club coordinated the Knysna part of the programme.
Preschool principals from Greater Knysna and Bitou recently benefited from a week-long workshop in early childhood development presented by Swiss trainers and facilitated by Rotary.
