KNYSNA NEWS - The offices of Families South Africa (Famsa) are inviting members of the public to join their upcoming engagements for gender-based violence (GBV) stakeholders that aim to shed light on the fight against GBV.
According to a notice issued by Famsa, the goals of the engagement are to:
- Understand the legal aspects of GBV
- Increase first responders' understanding of the rights of victims
- Review the norms and standards of victim empowerment programme (VEP) services
- Improve referral systems between first responders and stakeholders
- Understand the services rendered for VEP victims by stakeholders
- Ensure that stakeholders provide the best services possible to victims to prevent secondary trauma
- Ensure teamwork and team engagement
- Introduce a self care tool to prevent responder burnout
- Highlight challenges and discuss solutions as a team.
Nicola Arend, is a master in forensic psychology and forensic investigation with more than 10 years' extensive experience providing training and support to the Saps Victim.
Empowerment Unit in Johannesburg and continues to do forensic work, facilitated a GBV engagement in November last year. That engagement was recorded and will be reviewed during two upcoming sessions in Knysna and Plett to meet the objectives set out above.
The Knysna session will be held on 22 June from 08:30 to 13:00 at the Knysna Anglican Church.
The session in Plett will take place on 13 July during the same times, but the location is yet to be confirmed.
