KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna community is mourning the death of Asemahle "Maggie" Hlombo (25), an employee at Farmers Grill, who was tragically killed in a pedestrian accident on the N2 highway near the Oupad on Sunday 15 March.
According to a statement from Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies, officers responded to the scene at about 10:00.
"Upon arrival, members found a woman who had been struck by a Toyota Quantum minibus taxi. The victim had sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead by paramedics on the scene," Spies said.
The driver of the minibus taxi was taken in for questioning. Police confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the accident are still being investigated.
The community has been urged to remain vigilant when crossing busy roads, especially along the N2.
'Special energy'
Hlombo's colleagues at Farmers Butchery - which incorporates Farmer's Grill where Hlombo worked - and her friends in Knysna have expressed shock and deep sadness at her untimely passing. Colleagues described Hlombo as a beautiful young woman with a warm and caring nature. "She was friendly, well-mannered and had a wonderful personality that made her a joy to be around. Maggie took great pride in her work and always ensured that everything was neat and in order. It was always a pleasure to work with her. Maggie brought a special energy to the workplace and her presence could light up any room. She was the kind of colleague one could rely on and someone deeply missed whenever she was off duty or on leave."
Although she is no longer physically with her colleagues, they say her spirit will always remain in their hearts and memories. "May you rest in peace, Maggie."
In a separate message of condolence, the Farmers Butchery management said: "We will miss Maggie dearly. She was always friendly, helpful and willing to assist with a smile that could brighten any room. Our heartfelt condolences go to Maggie's family and friends."
Maggie had no children, according to information received.At the time of going to press, funeral arrangements for Hlombo had not yet been confirmed.
