Update
KNYSNA NEWS - A Knysna man who had struggled for more than five years to get his matric certificate due to the incorrect ID number reflected thereon has reason to celebrate as he has now succeeded in obtaining the corrected certificate from the Department of Education.
On 24 July, Knysna-Plett Herald (KPH) wrote about the plight of 30-year-old Luyolo Mbambisa, who complained that he had been sent from pillar to post for the past five years in his quest to obtain his senior certificate from the department.
"The problem with my certificate was that it said I was born in 1990 while my ID said I was born in 1991, which is correct," he explained to KPH.
Mbambisa, who passed matric in 2010, said he only found out about the mistake on his certificate in 2015. "Since then, I had paid the R97 which they demanded but when I asked for the certificate they told me stories," he recounts.
"Last year I was told to pay the amount again in order to get the certificate. I communicated with them but they did not send me the copy until I went to the paper." Mbambisa is elated.
"Now I can go and apply for a job," he said. "I have been depending on my father for a long time and my family is struggling. Now that I have received a copy of my certificate I am able to apply for a job and help my father take care of the family."
