KNYSNA NEWS - Former footballers rolled back the years as Kasi Masters successfully defended their title at the second edition of the Knysna Legends Soccer Tournament, edging Ratanang Legends in a dramatic penalty shoot-out this past Sunday.
The final at Safe Hub ended 2-2 in regulation time, before Kasi Masters held their nerve to win 6-5 on penalties.
Ratanang struck first through Hammedi Kibanda, but Lazola Dume brought the hosts level before halftime.
The match remained finely balanced, with Kasi reduced to 10 men just before the break after Victory Best received a red card.
Despite the setback, Kasi Masters took the lead in the second half when Sandiso Dobe found the net. Ratanang, however, responded late in the game as Siyabonga Nontshinga equalised to force a shoot-out.
Earlier, Kasi Masters booked their place in the final with a 4-2 win over Port Alfred Masters, while Ratanang defeated CBS Legends 2-1.
Teamwork
Head coach Luvuyo Magadla praised his side's resilience, saying it was never easy to regroup former players, but teamwork proved decisive.
Tournament organisers Nkosinathi Yokwana and Luvuyo Rawana highlighted the event's role in uniting communities through sport.
Lazola Dume finished as top scorer, Luvuyo Ncamile was named best goalkeeper and Xolani Kinana walked away as player of the tournament.
