PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - As the Qolweni unrest moves into a fifth day, Western Cape MEC for human settlements Tertuis Simmers is scheduled to address residents and the Bitou Council in Plettenberg Bay today.
The national road has been closed since Monday due to rioting by Qolweni residents who are unhappy about a housing project in the area. Protestors have been barricading the road near the Shell garage with burning tyres and other debris.
Municipal officials have had two meetings with the community since Monday, but both failed to end the rioting.
Motorists have been forced to use an alternative route via the town’s Airport Road.
