Update
KNYSNA NEWS - The investigation into fraud and perjury charges against the top echelon of the ruling Knysna Council coalition and two municipal officials has been referred to the Serious Corruption Investigation Unit (SCI) of the Hawks in George.
This according to Hawks Western Cape spokesperson Zinzi Hani, who said the case was referred to them “for further investigation“.
The charges against Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa and Speaker Mncedisi Skosana were laid
by the DA’s Knysna constituency head Dr Dion George on Monday 5 December, while similar charges of fraud and perjury were earlier laid by DA councillor Sharon Sabbagh against Deputy Mayor Alberto Marbi, as well as two municipal officials, Acting Municipal Manager Roland Butler and Acting Director of Corporate Services Adv Luvuyo Loliwe.
The charges follow an urgent application by the DA last month to stop the payment of eight political appointees by the ANC-led coalition.
Criminal charges by the DA came after a judgment in the Western Cape High Court on November 25 in which Judge Robert Henney said a “fraud on the court” had been committed by respondents in the application.
The Hawks spokesperson said: “All the charges will be investigated together and that the case will be referred to the NPA for decision.”
In addition Sabbagh has also filed a complaint with the Legal Practice Council relating to the conduct of Loliwe in the High Court application.
