KNYSNA NEWS - “Everett Dirksen, an American politician born over a hundred years ago, declared, “When all is said and done, the real citadel of strength of any community is in the hearts and minds and desires of those who dwell there.”
Less than two short months ago a disaster of unprecedented proportions struck our beautiful little town of Knysna, leaving behind a trail of destruction and loss.
It was during and after the fire that the strength of the community became evident. Stories abound about the caring and support that has been given, by friends and strangers alike, to those who have suffered in so many different ways.
It was in the light of the pain and loss experienced that the Knysna-Sedgefield Hospice events team pondered long and hard about whether to proceed with the Spring Maison Market, now in its fifth year.
The money raised at such an event is vitally important and necessary to the many people within our greater community who are very ill, who lack the emotional and financial wherewithal to cope with their suffering, and who depend on Hospice to provide this.
Ultimately, it was decided to go ahead with this event and the 2017 big "treasure hunt" has begun.
The success of our market relies heavily on the generosity of the community and once again you are kindly being asked to set aside items that you no longer need but that could be treasured by another.

As usual, the search is on for all gently but no longer used home and garden treasures. While Hospice runs two successful charity shops, one in Knysna and the other in Sedgefield, it is felt that there is place for a more trendy "maison market" in the style of the popular house-goods markets in France.
The success of the Hospice Maison Market is heavily based on the generosity of the community.
Such items include furniture, ornaments, vases, lamps, artwork, frames, soft furnishings, carpets, tableware, crockery, baskets, kitchenware, linen, craft items and garden pots and ornaments.
Christmas decorations, fabrics, beads, buttons, wool, ribbons, stationery, jewellery, vintage clothing and accessories would also be much appreciated.
Hospice would like to acknowledge the support given in previous years to our market by shop owners and interior decorators. Once again we encourage them to come forward with donations, which add to the delightful assortment of old and new fine items on sale.
Why not set aside items that you no longer need but that could be treasured by another?
Pam Golding is on board for the fifth year, and sponsoring the Hospice Treasure Hunt. They have kindly offered their premises on Leisure Isle to be used as a drop-off point for all donated items.

The 2017 Hospice Maison Market will be held at Amble Ridge Village clubhouse, Sunninghill Drive, which is the first right after Knysna Private Hospital.
This is the beautiful, spacious venue of last year, which enables you to view the sale items in comfort and at your leisure. In addition, tea/coffee and light refreshments will be available during the sale should you wish to take a break from your shopping.
A credit card facility will also be available.
Doors open Friday 29 September from 10:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 30 September from 09:00 to 12:00.
Hospice promises that the 2017 event will be the "best ever" for all in search of a treasure.
Donated items can include furniture, ornaments, vases, lamps, artwork, frames, soft furnishings, carpets, tableware, crockery, baskets, kitchenware, linen, craft items and garden pots and ornaments.
