KNYSNA NEWS - A fire at the Knysna taxi rank this morning burned down a number of trading stalls, with two gas cannisters also exploding in the blaze.
The fire occurred shortly after 06:00, and according to Knysna Municipality spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhout, the Knysna Fire & Rescue Services dispatched five vehicles at approximately 06:29.
The explosions from the gas cannisters caused significant damage to the surrounding stalls.
"There is extensive damage to the structures. It is confirmed that 2 x 3kg LPG cylinders exploded due to the fire," Bezuidenhoudt said, confirming that no injuries were sustained.
"The cause is undetermined at this stage. It will be investigated in due course."
There were vast amounts of smoke rising from the fire into the sky above Knysna.
