KNYSNA NEWS - According to reports from police, a family of four was found dead in the remnants of a fire in Concordia last weekend.
"Knysna police has opened an inquest docket for further investigation following the death of a family of four on Saturday 9 April at approximately 20:47 in Woodcock, Concordia," said Southern Cape police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie.
According to Pojie, the Knysna Fire and Rescue Department and police responded to a fire that gutted a wooden structured house.
"Upon [extinguishing] the fire, firefighters discovered the remains of four bodies among the debris, believed to be that of a family of four; a couple and their two kids, the youngest nine months old, according to preliminary investigation.
The bodies were burned beyond recognition," he explained.
"The cause of the fire as well as the identity of the bodies cannot be confirmed as yet and form part of the investigation. An autopsy will be conducted that might assist police in identifying the family and to determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing."
