KNYSNA NEWS - #WalkKnysna, an initiative of Knysna Tourism, was trending in South Africa last week as it made the top five most talked-about subjects on Twitter.
September is designated as Tourism Month, to encourage South Africans to explore their own country.
To participate, Knysna & Partners organised a Twitter session on Wednesday 6 September, which created a platform for people’s questions posted on Twitter to be answered.
Thousands of people joined the conversation, replied and/or retweeted, which gained the momentum for the campaign.
Jeannine Orzechwski, who is in charge of Knysna Tourism’s public relations, says, “There are various areas within Knysna that people may have not seen. We’ve organised five different walks and they are all free and everyone is welcome to join, but there is limited space so people need to book.”
Orzechwski is encouraging locals to join the walks and relish some of beautiful treasures the town has to offer.
Walks are free, she says, but donations will be welcome for various community projects, like the Educare Centre in Judah Square, and the Keep a Girl in School project in Smutsville.
The first two walks took place on September 9 and 12 respectively: the first was a beach walk to Gericke’s Point in Sedgefield, and the second was a walking tour of the Knysna Rasta Community in Judah Square.
More scheduled walks:
• Jubilee Creek forest: 21 September
• Smutsville Township Tour: 26 September
• Historical Walk: 30 September.
