KNYSNA NEWS - Endeavours by Garden Route District police to eradicate substance abuse and rid communities of drugs yielded positive results with the arrest of two men and the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R160 000.
On Tuesday, 28 January Knysna police officers and officers attached to the Crime Intelligence unit embarked on an intelligence-driven operation in Main Road, Knysna.
Mandrax
Information received led the integrated team to spot a man outside a cellphone repair shop.
The officers searched the man and allegedly found 480 Mandrax tablets and 50 grams of tik in his possession.
The 33-year-old man was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs, and the drugs confiscated.
After further investigation, the officers went to a house in Jabulani Street, Concordia, where the suspect resides.
Parcel
A thorough search of the premises ensued, allegedly leading to the discovery of a parcel containing drugs, concealed in the ceiling.
The officers confiscated 1 788 Mandrax tablets, 90 "halves", as well as 50 grams of tik.
Furthermore, on the same day at about 05:00, officers attached to the Garden Route District Crime Combating unit and the Knysna Crime Prevention unit, armed with a search warrant, conducted a targeted operation at premises in Alemein Street, Hornlee, Knysna.
A search of the premises allegedly led to the confiscation of "10 bankies of tik, 59 Mandrax tablets and 33 bankies of dagga".
The occupant, a 32-year-old man, was subsequently arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Both suspects are in police custody, and will appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court once formally charged.
