The Global Week of Service started on Monday, October 20.
Community service is a tradition embedded in Hilton Worldwide's culture and acts of volunteerism occur year-round across its portfolio of twelve distinct brands and more than 4 200 properties. Hilton Worldwide's Global Week of Service is a celebration of the company's commitment to serving and enriching the communities where we live, work and travel. Thousands of Hilton Worldwide team members across 93 countries and territories participate in hundreds of hands-on service projects.
Sophakama's name means 'rising up' and the school has benefitted from the volunteer service since Tuesday, October 21. They did rise up when Conrad Pezula installed outdoor playground equipment, a flush toilet, painted the school and also handed over food items, which have been donated by team members as well as from outside supporters.
The Conrad Pezula team worked at Sophakama for two days. According to Jessica le Roux, spokesperson for Conrad Pezula, they have even bigger plans to uplift the standard of the school, which does not have electricity and running water. The teachers and children must walk a far distance to carry water to the school every day.
Conrad Pezula will also visit the Vermont Old Age Home today, Thursday, October 23, to donate some amenities like shampoo and soap. They will also hand out cupcakes to all the residents and staff. Le Roux said that the team will spend some time cleaning up Noetzie Beach tomorrow, Friday, October 24.
Members of the Conrad Pezula volunteer team are hard at work.
