KNYSNA SCHOOLS NEWS - One of the biggest matric pass rate improvements this year comes from Concordia High School.
The school's results keep getting better each year from 55.1% in 2017, 69.6% in 2018 to now 81.9%.
The school's principal Mzwabantu Blaai, upon receiving the results, extended his gratitude to the parents, the school governing body, school's management team, the staff, the parents and the learners for the "huge jump".
He added all the learners needed was love and for someone to show-up for them and give them the tools they needed to succeed. "With that kind of love they can overcome any obstacle. The Class of 2019 has made us proud. The results came from hard work, dedication and discipline from the learners and the educators," Blaai said. He further said their ultimate goal was to get a 100% pass rate and that they intended not to rest until they have reached this. Blaai congratulated their 2019 learners and wished them success, he also encouraged the learners that didn't make it to stand up, correct their mistakes and go after their dreams. Siyamthanda Langa an 18-year-old from the school told the Knysna-Plett Herald that she would be studying sociology, "I have always been fascinated about cultures and their behaviours, so this will afford me insight and after this I want to pursue my studies in law. This will be my way to give back to the community,"
Langa said. Langa said the school's principal, teachers from the school and her family pushed her to study hard and ensured that she applied herself.
A very emotional, 18-year-old Likhona Tembani, will be studying dietics at the University of the Western Cape, "Black people are not informed about eating habits and how much this contributes to the betterment of one's life or how this can easily destroy it. So I want to study that and come back and work in Knysna.
"We have amazing tea-chers who kept on motivating us to do our best. Then there's my mom, in fact both parents, who are more invested in my education than I am. I am glad I could make them all proud." Sinalo Nompunga, 17, will be studying architectural technology at Nelson Mandela University because she is a "big fan of drawing". "I've made a lot of beautiful memories at the school. One of the most meaningful, would be of Mr Blaai and our teachers who constantly pushed us to do better."
Concordia High School's top five matrics of 2019 are: Siyamthanda Langa, Siwabongile Mkhosi, Likhona Tembani, Asemahle Mpongose and Sinalo Nompunga.
