Update
KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna local Angelique Fourie was announced as a Top 10 finalist in the Miss Earth SA competition, with the grand final set to take place next Thursday, 29 September.
Fourie, 26, was initially named as one of the Top 30 finalists during an announcement on 1 September, and since then she's already carried out a host of projects as a Miss Earth SA finalist.
Last week she also travelled to Johannesburg for a round of judging ahead of Monday's announcement. Fourie was overjoyed when the news broke on Monday 19 September.
"I am extremely excited and grateful to be one of the ladies nominated as a Top 10 finalist for Miss Earth. It is a huge honour!" she said. "Being a finalist means that I am able to continue the work I have been doing around Knysna, as well as doing the Miss Earth organisation on some of their projects throughout the year."
Fourie is looking forward to what lies ahead. "It means more opportunity to make small changes that could have a big impact in the long run, and ultimately it means that I have a platform I can use to make a difference and educate the youth on how they can help contribute to a more sustainable future while taking care of Mother Earth," she said.
"The next step will include a final interview on Saturday with the Miss Earth head office, a project to be done in Orange Farm with the organisation, and for myself another tree planting here in Knysna, before jetting back to Johannesburg for the finals."
