GARDEN ROUTE - The renowned satirical play Woza Albert!, which depicts the second coming of Jesus Christ during apartheid-era South Africa, is coming to Knysna and Plettenberg Bay this August.
"This is more than just a play - it's living history," says Lunchbox Theatre founder Stuart Palmer. "It's an opportunity for the Garden Route community to witness a defining piece of South African theatre, performed by masters of the craft."
The revival stars two of South Africa's most respected stage and screen actors, Hamilton Dhlamini and Thulani Mtsweni, whose tour-de-force performances bring multiple characters to life with humour, urgency and poignancy. The production is directed by Dhlamini himself, offering a fresh but faithful take on the original work.
The production is presented by Ndlondlo Productions in partnership with the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation, and is hosted by Lunchbox Theatre, a leading arts non-profit on the Garden Route.
Performances are scheduled for 8 August at Oakhill School, Knysna, and 9 August at The Hearth @ Bocca Dulce in Wittedrift, Plettenberg Bay, both starting at 19:30.
