PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - More than 4 000 people have thrown their weight behind a campaign to see bail denied for the 29-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the rape of a teenage girl on a farm on Airport Road, Plettenberg Bay last year.
The man is scheduled to apply for bail in the local magistrate's court on Thursday 5 March.
This would be his fourth appearance since his arrest in Ladismith – about 250km from Plett – on 13 February.
It is alleged the man raped the young girl during the festive season last year when she visited him and his wife.
According to police the girl reported the incident to her mother upon her return home in Jansenville in the Eastern Cape.
The suspect appeared in court on 17 February, but the matter was postponed to 21 February for a formal bail application. When he appeared on the day, the matter was postponed to 28 February, but was then yet again postponed, this time to 5 March.
Since the matter came to light, SA Women Fight Back has started a campaign to oppose bail. By the time of going to print, more than 4 000 individuals had signed the petition.
