KNYSNA NEWS - A 13-year-old boy was rescued and revived following a medical emergency while swimming at Leisure Isle yesterday, 1 January.
According to NSRI Knysna station commander Jerome Simonis, the NSRI Knysna duty crew was activated at 11:17 after a request for assistance from NSRI Knysna lifeguards on duty at Leisure Isle.
Lifeguards had rescued a male teenager from the water and were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
NSRI Knysna’s medical crew and ER24 ambulance services responded to the scene. On arrival, NSRI medics assisted the lifeguards who were continuing CPR on the 13-year-old. During the resuscitation efforts, a pulse was successfully restored.
ER24 paramedics then took over the teenager’s care and transported him by ambulance to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
It is believed the teenager, who is thought to be a local resident, suffered a medical condition while swimming.
Lifeguards noticed him in distress in the water, immediately raised the alarm, and swiftly rescued him to the shore, where CPR was commenced.
