KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Crime Prevention Unit members have confiscated dagga worth an estimated value of R470 000 after a vehicle chase on the N2 highway near Knysna.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, the officers were strategically deployed as part of a clamp-down on drug syndicates during the ongoing Safer Festive Season operations.
Spies confirmed that persistent policing efforts resulted in a significant breakthrough late on Sunday 16 November, when officers intercepted a vehicle transporting a large consignment of dagga. "Their vigilance paid off," he said.
He explained that members of the Knysna Crime Prevention Unit spotted a suspicious vehicle parked in Main Street while they were patrolling the business district of Knysna at about 22:30.
"As officers approached, the vehicle sped off, prompting a high-speed chase along the N2 highway. The pursuit ended near the Knysna Provincial Hospital, where officers successfully brought the vehicle to a halt. A search of the car revealed two large parcels on the back seat, which upon inspection were found to contain 58.85 kilograms of dagga. Police also seized three cellphones, a scale, and an undisclosed amount of cash."
Two men, aged 43 and 49, were arrested and remain in custody. Both appeared in the Knysna Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 17 November, each facing a charge of dealing in drugs.
