PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Kwanokuthula Backyard Dwellers, a non-political group, handed over a petition to the Bitou Municipality today, Wednesday 12 November, calling for the provision of sites and services to backyard dwellers.
Bitou Mayor Jessica Kamkam responded after receiving the memorandum from Acting Municipal Manager Christopher Mapeyi.
Present at the handover were Kwanokuthula Backyard Dwellers chairperson Vilakazi Kitsi and organiser Welcome Tshala.
The organisation said it had become unaffordable to rent accommodation and it wanted a “waiting place” with sites and services, where people could erect their own homes.
It gave the municipality until 12 January to respond to the memorandum.
