Update
SEDGEFIELD NEWS - Knysna Municipality has obtained a high court order authorising the eviction of illegal occupants from municipal land in Smutsville, Sedgefield.
The site has been earmarked for the Sedgefield Infill Housing Programme, a project aimed at providing more than 150 serviced sites in its first phase.
Interdict
The municipality obtained an interim interdict yesterday, Friday 24 October. "This allows us to evict the current illegal squatters and prevent any further such illegal activity," said Municipal Manager Lulamile Mapholoba.
He appealed to the residents of Smutsville and Sizamile to give their collaboration during the process. "I ask that all residents, particularly those acting illegally, co-operate with officials in a calm and reasonable manner while this issue is resolved," he said.
Law and order
He emphasised the municipality’s commitment to maintaining law and order while ensuring the protection of residents’ rights and property. "We remain steadfast in our zero-tolerance approach to any kind of illegal activity, including land invasion," he said.
"While we will take all reasonable action to execute the directives of the court order, we will also endeavour to protect the rights, safety and property of law-abiding citizens."
