KNYSNA NEWS - Sue Swain from BioWise is excited to announce that the Knysna Municipality has pledged their support to the BioWise Waste Nothing Knysna programme.
This was done by the municipality agreeing to start the journey towards making the main municipal building a fully "bio-wise" building.
Swain says the aim of the programme, launched in March this year, is to minimise Knysna’s waste – not just traditional waste but also waste of water, energy and space.
"The municipality’s support is crucial to the success of the programme and we are delighted that they have not only pledged their support but that they will lead by example. We will look at rainwater harvesting, recycling efforts, the use of energy, and space within the building to start with," says Swain.
The Municipality appointed “Champions of Change” in the different Departments who will drive the process within the various Departments according to Swain. She said that the first step is often just a mind change.
“Once people start to think differently and understand what needs to be done, actions follow automatically. We are looking forward to working with them to become Africa’s first bio-wise zero waste town.”
* When asked about the pledged support, spokesperson for the Knysna Municipality Christopher Bezuidenhout said, "Yes, the Mayor is the driving force behind this project."
