Dr Gideon Groenewald, chief hydrologist for Gift of the Givers, on arrival on Tuesday 1 October, told residents that the organisation won’t leave town before the Nqweba Dam is full, and enough boreholes are drilled to provide the entire Graaff-Reinet with safe drinking water.
Groenewald will announce plans for water distribution on Saturday 5 October.
On Wednesday at 6.15pm, while drilling at Spandau Secondary School, they reached the first water 69 meters down.
Thursday at 10am, 120 meters down, 2 100 litres of water was released from the same borehole per hour.
The Advertiser witnessed the water spread about 100 meters into the air.
Heinrich Landmann from JM Landman Boordienste, working for Gift of the Givers, said they will now install a huge water tank (maybe more) at the hole.
