KNYSNA NEWS & VIDEO - A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Nekkies resident this week.
According to Knysna police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, the suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday morning, August 1 after the death of Edward Mkhondomtsinde, a Malawian national, on July 31.
Mkhondomtsinde's body was found in front of an informal dwelling on Uniondale Road, near Sanlam Mall, on Monday at about 14:45.
When the Knysna-Plett Herald (KPH) arrived on the scene, a forensic team was investigating the area while the body was being removed.
Residents crowded around the scene, some watching in disbelief, others questioning the KPH's presence on the scene and becoming verbally abusive.
"It is alleged that the victim was approached by the suspect after which an altercation ensued and the victim was stabbed with a sharp object. He sustained a stab wound to the body and died on the scene. The suspect fled from the scene, but investigation into this matter led to the arrest of the suspect at his residence at Nekkies, Knysna on August 1," said Spies.
Spies added the suspect will appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court later this week.
