GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - In a statement issued by the Garden Route District Municipality, on 17 January, there are currently three wildfires active in the Garden Route.
Three fires are currently active on the Swartberg Pass, Molendrift, Lovain and Vermaaklikheid, and Swartberg Pass (Cape Nature property).
Swartberg Pass (Cape Nature property)
The southern line of the Swartberg Pass is still active. Three separate areas are spreading south, west, and east. A planned counter-burn could not be implemented due to unfavourable weather conditions.
The actions include ground crews deploying inaccessible areas and monitoring inaccessible areas in line with infrastructure. The burnout (counter burn) is planned for later this afternoon. No structures are under immediate threat.
Molenrivier, Louvain
The wildfire is still burning in inaccessible and dense terrain. Trigger points have been set to implement a burnout (counter burn) tomorrow afternoon once the fire reaches the trigger point.
Roleplayers include Garden Route District Municipality Fire Services, Oudtshoorn Municipality's Fire and Rescue Services, Cape Nature, San Parks, Southern Cape Fire Protection Association, Working on Fire and relevant landowners. No infrastructure is under threat.
