KNYSNA NEWS - Two men, aged 24 and 42, who have been accused of the rape of a 15-year-old girl earlier this year appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 29 August.
"The matter is being investigated by the George Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
"The investigation of two unrelated case dockets has led to the arrest of two men," said Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies.
"Reports available suggest that two accused appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Wednesday 23 August on unrelated charges of rape."
According to Spies, it's alleged that both the accused raped the 15-year-old girl earlier this year. The victim confided in her next of kin, leading to the opening of the cases in August.
"The accused were arrested shortly thereafter and investigation into this case continues," Spies said. The duo has been charged separately, and have appeared in court as part of separate cases.
On Tuesday the case was postponed to today, Thursday 31 August, for a formal bail application. Names of the accused and the victim are unavailable due to the nature of the crime.
The National Prosecuting Authority's Western Cape spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila could not provide feedback on the cases at the time of going to print.
