KNYSNA NEWS - Two men have been arrested for assault after an attack on a Lieutenant Colonel from the Knysna Police Station on Friday 13 January, while a third was arrested for obstructing a police officer in the wake of the attack.
"Investigation into the attack reveals that the Lieutenant Colonel was in the Knysna central business district when he was accosted by a group of men," said Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies.
“He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by a member of the public.”
The two arrests were made later the same day. "The suspects, aged 21 and 22, are facing charges of attempted murder and assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm," Spies explained. "A 57-year-old man was also arrested for obstructing a member to exercise his duties. They remain in police custody and are expected to make a court appearance on Monday 16 January."
Spies added that the Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, welcomed the arrest of the two suspects.
