PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Concerted efforts to safeguard the public during the holiday period as part of on-going Safer Festive Season operations yielded positive results in and around Plettenberg Bay over the past month.
The latest results came from an operation at the Tsitsikamma Toll Plaza on Friday 7 January when officers conducted a roadblock on the N2 during which they stopped and searched a passenger bus.
"The thorough search yielded positive results when police confiscated R52 000 worth of counterfeit goods," Southern Cape police spokesman Sergeant Christopher Spies said. He added an enquiry docket was opened to investigate the origin and destination of the goods.
On 5 January at 23:00. officers attached to the Rural Flying Squad were deployed on the N2 when they received a tip-off about a vehicle involved in possible illicit activities.
Spies said they later spotted the vehicle, a Ford Ranger bakkie with two occupants, near the entrance to The Crags just outside Plettenberg Bay. "During a search of the vehicle a 7.65 pistol with an empty magazine was confiscated. Police arrested the driver and his passenger."
The suspects, aged 22 and 31, each face a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
On 19 December Kwanokuthula police embarked on an operation at a house in Kranshoek on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay where they confiscated a small quantity of liquor. They arrested a 30-year-old suspect on a charged of possession of illicit liquor. The suspect paid a R2 000 fine and was later released.
Khat
On 18 December members of the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team and Rural Flying Squad stopped a passenger bus at a roadblock near the Tsitsikamma Toll Plaza outside Plettenberg Bay.
The officers found 350 bundles of Khat with an estimated street value of R27 000 in the trailer of the vehicle. The find was later linked to a passenger on board. Police arrested the 36-year-old suspect on a charge of possession of drugs.
On 16 December at 16:00, Kwanokuthula police responded to information on illicit activities at a house at Angola Street, Kwanokuthula.
This response landed a suspected drug dealer behind bars after officers found small quantities of Tik, Mandrax tablets and dagga in his home. Officers confiscated the drugs and arrested the 46-year-old suspect on a charge of dealing in drugs.
