Parks Week ends on high note

GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - SANParks wrapped up national Parks Week on a high note over the weekend.

Locals were given an open invitation to explore the Garden Route National Park’s forests and seascapes from 18 September, which ended with a Sunset Serenade in Wilderness on 23 September.

Park manager Paddy Gordon said, “We want people to associate the conservation of nature with heritage.

"We conserve nature for the benefit of current and future generations.”

Occupancy in the park’s rest camps both in Wilderness and Tsitsikama was 100% over the long weekend.

In Ebb & Flow rest camp, Wilderness, the Sunset Serenade featured popular local musicians who entertained the visitors.

Joe Davis on saxophone and guitar was the opening act for the night, followed by AfroQuartez, a classical four-piece vocal group who kept the audience captivated, and the last performance was by Les and Jordan Carpede.

Tsitsikamma also had a slice of the action and hosted cultural dance groups from local communities.

SANParks communications official Nandi Mgwadlamba said, “This year’s concerted effort was made to include those who had never visited the park before. The park will tally statistics and release same during the upcoming week.”
